Idle No More SF Bay was founded in 2013 by a group of Indigenous grandmothers who had been praying together since 2007. Over the years, some grandmothers left and others joined. Idle No More has been composed of a core group of people in their 20s to 70s. In 2019, INM received funding for an Intergenerational Program to transfer wisdom, skills, and knowledge from the grandmother to the younger members. In January of 2020, after many workshops and retreats, the founding grandmothers now function as advisors to INM SF Bay. The other members are now the decision makers and organizers. “Many Hands, One World: Quilts of the Refinery Corridor Healing Walks” January 24-March 16, 2024 Exhibit and March 2 Panel Discussion
From 2014-2017, Idle No More SF Bay organized 16 Indigenous women-led Healing Walks along the Refinery Corridor of the San Francisco Bay. The walks connected the communities impacted by 5 oil refineries along our coastline with each other and with communities impacted by extraction, transport, and refining of fossil fuels across the Americas and the world. At the end of each walk, we invited participants to share their visions for the future on muslin squares, which were sewn into 12 beautiful quilts.
We invite you to the Richmond Art Center for an exhibit of the quilts. Join on us on March 2, 2024 for a celebration and panel discussion on the Walks and the quilt project.

Isabella Zizi Speaks at Stanford Law
On March 4, 2023 Isabella Zizi was a featured speaker on a panel at the Stanford Law School about Climate Disobedience as part of the Conference called Shaking the Foundations: Keeping Gideon’s Promise.
The Keynote Speaker was Dr. Clarence Jones, speechwriter and personal attorney for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Jones stayed after his keynote address to listen to the Climate panel and was deeply moved by Isabel’s presentation. He told her that she had stirred hope in the heart of a 93 year-old veteran of the movement. (Isabella will have to share the exact words but I think this captures the spirit of many profound observations and appreciations that he shared with her.) Idle No More SF Bay members were proudly there in attendance. We are working on getting a video clip edited and ready sharing Isabella speaking on the panel.

Idle No More SF Bay is for clean air, water, and soil, and for a vibrantly healthy future.
Inspired by the First Nations Idle No More movement, we are a group of Native Americans and allies working together to create positive change concerning Indigenous rights, the rights of Mother Earth, and the rights of the coming generations to a sustainable and healthy environment.
We are all together in this time of shifting from human practices that are destroying our ability to exist to the beautiful and sustainable future that so many are not only imagining, but making a reality in communities around the world. It will take the best in all of us to create the best possible future for coming generations. You are welcome to join us to be part of the inspiring solutions! |
Idle No More SF Bay helps organize the Native American community in the San Francisco Bay Area to attend the marches and actions that are in alignment with our values. We have also conducted solidarity actions with our First Nations sisters and brothers at the Canadian Consulate, as well as organized actions at the many fossil fuel facilities in the area.
